Security Lapse? Our Legal Take 2 Injured in Nashville Apartment Shooting

Did negligent security contribute to this apartment shooting? Read Our Legal Take to find out if the victim may have a legal avenue for justice and a claim for compensation.

Local News

24-year-old Newton Morgan was reportedly shot and injured at the Bellevue Heights apartment complex Thursday morning, November 3, 2016.

According to The Tennessean, the shooting occurred “shortly after 3 a.m. at Bellevue Heights Apartments on the 1500 block of Amberwood Circle.” Mr. Morgan was apparently discovered with multiple gunshot wounds to the torso and transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Hospital. His current condition has not been released. Officers reportedly discovered Mr. Morgan’s stolen vehicle following the shooting.

A second man was dropped off at a hospital with gunshot wounds, per media reports. It is unclear whether that person was a victim or involved in the initial shooting.

Our Legal Take

Apartment residents and guests have a right to feel safe and secure within the community. The Murray Law Firm questions the level of security provided at the apartment complex and whether this shooting may have been prevented.

  • How did the gunman gain entry to the property? What security measures, such as bright lighting, gated-entry, security patrols, and surveillance cameras, were in place to deter crime at the time of the shooting?
  • Have there been prior incidents of violence on property and, if so, were any additional security precautions implemented by the property owner or management to protect residents?

Generally, property owners are required to protect all residents and guests legally on the premises from any foreseeable harm. Should the facts of this matter reveal that the apartment complex owner or management company failed to provide adequate security to protect those on its premises, the victim may seek justice and elect to pursue a legal claim for his injuries.

Based upon its prior successful experience in handling security negligence claims on behalf of victims and their families, The Murray Law Firm suggests that photographs and a thorough, unbiased inspection of the property will need to be performed immediately, before any evidence may be repaired, damaged or destroyed. Given the complexities of pursuing a negligent security case, it is imperative that the victim retain an experienced attorney who can ensure the preservation of any and all evidence that may support such a claim.

Negligent Security? Our Legal Take: Teen Killed in Tampa Hotel Shooting

Did negligent security contribute to the tragic death of this young man and the injury of another? Read Our Legal Take to find out if the victim’s family may have a legal avenue for justice and a claim for compensation

Local News

A shooting at the Tampa Hotel reportedly claimed the life of 17-year-old Kelly Stacy, Jr. and left another young man injured Sunday afternoon, October 30, 2016. According to The Tampa Bay Times, gunfire erupted shortly before 3:00 p.m. “at the Tampa Hotel” on E Busch Boulevard. Mr. Stacy was tragically unable to recover from his injuries. “[Mr.] Stacy’s best friend was with him at the hotel and was shot three times,” per Tampa Bay Times reports. He was transported to the hospital. His current condition has not been released.

Police are reportedly still searching for suspects and a motive.

Our Legal Take

Hotel guests have a right to feel safe and secure on the property that they are visiting. The Murray Law Firm questions the level of security provided at the hotel and whether this tragedy may have been prevented.

  • What security measures, such as guest screening, ID-controlled entry, security patrols, and surveillance cameras, were in place to protect guests at the time of the shooting?
  • Was the hotel management aware of prior incidents of violence and, if so, were any additional security measures implemented to protect patrons and deter crime?

Generally, property owners are required to protect all guests legally on the premises from any foreseeable harm. Should the facts of this matter reveal that the hotel owner or manager failed to provide adequate security to protect those on its premises, the family of Kelly Stacy, Jr. may seek justice and elect to pursue a legal claim for his wrongful death. Additionally, the other young victim of this shooting may elect to pursue legal claims for his injuries.

Based upon its prior successful experience in handling security negligence claims on behalf of victims and their families, The Murray Law Firm suggests that photographs and a thorough, unbiased inspection of the property will need to be performed immediately, before any evidence may be repaired, damaged or destroyed. Given the complexities of pursuing a negligent security case, it is imperative that the victim’s family retain an experienced attorney who can ensure the preservation of any and all evidence that may support such a claim.

Negligent Security? Our Legal Take: Bystander Injured in Shooting Outside Columbia Nightclub

Did negligent security contribute to the shooting of an innocent bystander? Read Our Legal Take to find out if the victim may have a legal avenue for justice and claims for compensation

Local News

A bystander was reportedly shot and injured during an altercation outside of Club Bliss Thursday morning, October 27, 2016.

According to WLTX 19 News, “club goers got into a altercation outside of Club Bliss on Two Notch Road at about 3:00 a.m.” The dispute apparently escalated into gunfire, which struck “an innocent bystander in the lower body.” The victim was transported to the hospital with injuries. A prior violent altercation apparently occurred outside the club in March of 2016, according to The State reports.

Our Legal Take

Nightclub patrons have a right to feel safe and secure on the property that they are visiting. The Murray Law Firm questions the level of security provided at the business and whether this shooting may have been prevented.

  • What security measures, such as weapons screenings, bright lighting, security patrols, and surveillance cameras, were in place to protect patrons at the time of the shooting?
  • Have there been prior incidents of violence on or near property? If so, were any additional security measures implemented by the nightclub or parking lot owner to deter crime?

Generally, property owners are required to protect all patrons legally on the premises from any foreseeable harm. Should the facts of this matter reveal that the property owner or manager failed to provide adequate security to protect those on its premises, the victim may seek justice and elect to pursue a legal claim for injuries.
