How did the gunman gain entry to the property? What parking lot security measures, such as bright lighting, gated-entry, security patrols, and surveillance cameras, were in place to deter crime at the time of the shooting?

  • October 2016 crime reports, from Spotcrime.com, reveal a number of assaults and robberies in the surrounding area. Was the apartment complex aware of any prior criminal activity on or near the property?  If so, were additional security precautions implemented by the property owner or management to protect residents?

Generally, property owners are required to protect all residents and guests legally on the premises from any foreseeable harm. Should the facts of this matter reveal that the apartment complex owner or management company failed to provide adequate security to protect those on its premises, the victim may seek justice and elect to pursue a legal claim for his injuries.

Based upon its prior successful experience in handling security negligence claims on behalf of victims and their families, The Murray Law Firm suggests that photographs and a thorough, unbiased inspection of the property will need to be performed immediately, before any evidence may be repaired, damaged or destroyed. Given the complexities of pursuing a negligent security case, it is imperative that the victim retain an experienced attorney who can ensure the preservation of any and all evidence that may support such a claim.

Security Failure? Our Legal Take: 3 Injured in Roanoke Rapids Sports Bar Shooting

Did negligent security contribute to the shooting of three people? Read Our Legal Take to find out if the victims may have a legal avenue for justice and a claim for compensation

Local News

Three people were reportedly shot and injured in the parking lot outside Mir’s Sports Bar and Grill Saturday morning, October 2, 2016.

According to ABC 11 News, the triple shooting occurred “around 1 a.m. outside Mir’s Sports Bar and Grill on Julian Allsbrook Highway.” Gunfire apparently erupted following a “fight that broke out inside the bar [and] then spilled out into the parking lot.” RRSPIN.com reported that “a woman who was inside the establishment said there had been ‘fussing’ between two men” prior to the shooting. Three victims were transported to the hospital with injuries. Their current conditions have not been released.

Our Legal Take

Bar and parking lot patrons have a right to feel safe and secure on the property that they are visiting. The Murray Law Firm questions the level of security provided in the parking lot and whether this shooting may have been prevented.

  • What security measures, such as weapons screenings, bright lighting, security patrols, and surveillance cameras, were in place to protect patrons at the time of the shooting?
  • Were any attempts made to safely and separately remove those involved in the initial dispute from the premises, prior to escalating to violence? Were police called to assist with the initial altercation?
  • Have there been prior incidents of violence on or near property? If so, were any additional security measures implemented by the bar or parking lot owner to deter crime?

Generally, property owners are required to protect all patrons legally on the premises from any foreseeable harm. Should the facts of this matter reveal that the business or parking lot owners failed to provide adequate security to protect those on its premises, the victims may seek justice and elect to pursue a legal claim for their injuries.

Based upon its prior successful experience in handling security negligence claims on behalf of victims and their families, The Murray Law Firm suggests that photographs and a thorough, unbiased inspection of the property will need to be performed immediately, before any evidence may be repaired, damaged or destroyed. Given the complexities of pursuing a negligent security case, it is imperative that the victims retain an experienced attorney who can ensure the preservation of any and all evidence that may support such a claim.
