Parking Lot Security Lapse? Our Legal Take: 1 Injured Outside Charlotte Strip Mall

Did negligent security contribute to this parking lot shooting? Read Our Legal Take to find out if the victim may have a legal avenue for justice and a claim for compensation

Local News

A man was reportedly shot and injured outside The Plaza strip mall in Charlotte Tuesday night, September 28, 2016.

According to WSOCTV 9 News, the shooting occurred “around 10:30 p.m. outside of a strip mall on The Plaza.” The victim was apparently “getting into his car when a man walked up and shot him several times.” The victim was transported to Carolinas Medical Center with “life-threatening” injuries. His current condition has not been released.

Police have not yet identified a suspect or motive in the shooting.

Our Legal Take

Shopping center and parking lot patrons have a right to feel safe and secure on the property that they are visiting. The Murray Law Firm questions the level of security provided in the parking lot and whether this shooting may have been prevented.

  • What security measures, such as bright lighting, security patrols and surveillance cameras, were in place to protect patrons at the time of the shooting?
  • Have there been prior incidents of violence on or near property? If so, were any additional security measures implemented by the parking lot owner to deter crime?

Generally, property owners are required to protect all patrons legally on the premises from any foreseeable harm. Should the facts of this matter reveal that the parking lot owner or management failed to provide adequate security to protect those on its premises, the victim may seek justice and elect to pursue a legal claim for his injuries.

Based upon its prior successful experience in handling security negligence claims on behalf of victims and their families, The Murray Law Firm suggests that photographs and a thorough, unbiased inspection of the property will need to be performed immediately, before any evidence may be repaired, damaged or destroyed. Given the complexities of pursuing a negligent security case, it is imperative that the victim retain an experienced attorney who can ensure the preservation of any and all evidence that may support such a claim.

Fatal Security Lapse? Our Legal Take: Man Shot in Houston Apartment Robbery

Did negligent security contribute to the fatal robbery and shooting of this man? Read Our Legal Take to find out if the victim’s family may have a legal avenue for justice and claim for compensation.

Local News

42-year-old David Trejo-Gonzalez was reportedly shot and killed during a robbery outside his Northline Terrace Crosstimbers apartment Thursday, September 22, 2016.

According to KPRC 2 News, Mr. Trejo-Gonzalez “got out of his car and was heading to his Northline Terrace Crosstimbers apartment when he was stopped by a man who demanded his money.” The assailant apparently opened fire during the robbery, fatally striking Mr. Trejo-Gonzalez. The suspect apparently fled in a vehicle, “where an accomplice was waiting for him,” KPRC reports.

Our Legal Take

Apartment residents and guests have a right to feel safe and secure within the community. The Murray Law Firm questions the level of security provided at the apartment complex and whether this tragedy may have been prevented.

  • How did the gunman and getaway driver gain entry to the property? What security measures, such as bright lighting, gated-entry, security patrols, and surveillance cameras, were in place to deter crime at the time of the shooting?
  • Was the apartment complex aware of any prior criminal activity on or near the property?  If so, were additional security precautions implemented by the property owner or management to protect residents?

Generally, property owners are required to protect all residents and guests legally on the premises from any foreseeable harm. Should the facts of this matter reveal that the apartment complex owner or management company failed to provide adequate security to protect those on its premises, the family of Mr. Trejo-Gonzalez may seek justice and elect to pursue a legal claim for his wrongful death.

Based upon its prior successful experience in handling security negligence claims on behalf of victims and their families, The Murray Law Firm suggests that photographs and a thorough, unbiased inspection of the property will need to be performed immediately, before any evidence may be repaired, damaged or destroyed. Given the complexities of pursuing a negligent security case, it is imperative that the victim’s family retain an experienced attorney who can ensure the preservation of any and all evidence that may support such a claim.
