Parking Lot Security Lapse? Our Legal Take: 2 Women Shot Outside Houston Sports Bar

Did negligent security contribute to the shooting of these women? Read Our Legal Take to find out if the victims may have a legal avenue for justice and claims for compensation

Local News

Two women were reportedly shot and injured while attempting to report a vehicle break-in outside Chula’s Sports Cantina Sunday, September 25, 2016.

According to KHOU News, the shooting occurred “outside Chulas Sports Cantina…located on the Southwest Freeway at Bissonet Street around 1:15 a.m.”  Two women apparently called 911 after seeing “a man breaking into a pickup truck” in the parking lot.  KHOU reports, the suspect “noticed them watching” and opened fire. Both victims were transported to the hospital with injuries.

The parking lot was reportedly the scene of a prior shooting in July 2015 according to Click2Houston.com.

Our Legal Take

Bar and parking lot patrons have a right to feel safe and secure on the property that they are visiting. The Murray Law Firm questions the level of security provided at the property and whether this shooting may have been prevented.

  • What parking lot security measures, such as bright lighting, security patrols and surveillance cameras, were in place to protect patrons at the time of the shooting?

Generally, property owners are required to protect all patrons legally on the premises from any foreseeable harm. Should the facts of this matter reveal that the owner or management of the parking lot failed to provide adequate security to protect those on its premises, the victims may seek justice and elect to pursue a legal claim for their injuries.

Based upon its prior successful experience in handling security negligence claims on behalf of victims and their families, The Murray Law Firm suggests that photographs and a thorough, unbiased inspection of the property will need to be performed immediately, before any evidence may be repaired, damaged or destroyed. Given the complexities of pursuing a negligent security case, it is imperative that the victims retain an experienced attorney who can ensure the preservation of any and all evidence that may support such a claim.

Did negligent security contribute to this hotel shooting? Read Our Legal Take to find out if the victim may have a legal avenue for justice and claim for compensation.

Local News

A 38-year-old man was reportedly shot and injured during a robbery at the Sleep Inn hotel Monday night, September 19, 2016.

Our Legal Take

Hotel guests have a right to feel safe and secure within the community. The Murray Law Firm questions the level of security provided at the hotel and whether this attack may have been prevented.

  • How did the gunman gain entry to the property? What security measures, such as ID-controlled entry, security patrols and surveillance cameras, were in place to deter crime at the time of the shooting?
  • Was the hotel aware of any prior criminal activity on or near the property?  If so, were additional security precautions implemented by the property owner or management to protect guests?

Generally, property owners are required to protect all guests legally on the premises from any foreseeable harm. Should the facts of this matter reveal that the hotel owner or management failed to provide adequate security to protect those on its premises, the victim may seek justice and elect to pursue a legal claim for his injuries.

Our Legal Take

Apartment residents and guests have a right to feel safe and secure within the community. The Murray Law Firm questions the level of security provided at the apartment complex and whether this attack may have been prevented.
