FORMER CLIENT: I had lawyers calling me, and friends telling me who I should hire…I trusted in The Murray Law Firm and I’m glad I did.

Bar patrons have a right to feel safe and secure while on the premises they are visiting. The level of security provided at the bar is of significance, and is a relevant consideration when analyzing whether this shooting may have been prevented.  The following questions are also important in assessing whether this incident may have been avoided:

  • Have prior incidents of violence been reported on or near the property?
  • Does the bar have a protocol to check guests for deadly weapons prior to entering the establishment?
  • What security measures, such as bright lighting, visible surveillance cameras, and security personnel, were in place to deter crime and protect the victim and others at the time of the shooting?

Property owners are generally required to protect against foreseeable harm to anyone and everyone legally on the premises.  Should the investigation into this incident reveal facts that establish that the bar owner or management lacked adequate security to protect its visitors, the victim may seek justice and elect to pursue legal claims and substantial compensation for his injuries.

The Murray Law Firm has extensive and successful experience in handling security negligence claims on behalf of victims and their families, and suggests that an immediate, unbiased inspection of the property will need to be performed so as to limit evidence from being altered, damaged or destroyed.  The complexities of pursuing a negligent security case are well understood by the legal team at The Murray Law Firm, and it is imperative that the victim retain a capable law firm who will work without delay to protect his interests.

Negligent Security? Our Legal Take: 5 Injured in Charlotte Bar Shooting

Did negligent security contribute to this shooting? Read Our Legal Take to find out if the victims may have a claim for compensation.

Local News

Five people were reportedly injured in a shooting at Reba’s Bar and Grill Sunday, June 26, 2016.  TWC News reports, police have arrested the suspect who allegedly “fired a gun from the parking lot into Reba’s Bar and Grill on Camp Greene Street early Sunday morning. Three people who were inside were shot and taken to the hospital by ambulance. Two other victims arrived at the hospital on their own later.”

Police have apparently not yet identified a motive in the attack.

Our Legal Take

Bar, restaurant, and parking lot patrons have a right to feel safe and secure on the property that they are visiting. The Murray Law Firm questions the level of security provided in the parking lot and whether this shooting may have been prevented.

  • What security measures, such as bright lighting, security patrols, weapons screenings, and surveillance cameras, were in place to protect patrons at the time of the shooting?
  • Was the bar or parking lot owner aware of any prior incidents of violence on or near the property?  If so, were additional security precautions implemented by the property owner or management to deter crime?

Generally, property owners are required to protect all patrons legally on the premises from any foreseeable harm. Should the facts of this matter reveal that the bar or parking lot owner or management failed to provide adequate security to protect those on its premises, the victims may seek justice and elect to pursue a legal claim for their injuries.

Based upon its prior successful experience in handling security negligence claims on behalf of victims and their families, The Murray Law Firm suggests that photographs and a thorough, unbiased inspection of the property will need to be performed immediately, before any evidence may be repaired, damaged or destroyed. Given the complexities of pursuing a negligent security case, it is imperative that the victims retain an experienced attorney who can ensure the preservation of any and all evidence that may support such a claim.
