Local News

A shooting outsidde Kitten’s Kabaret in Memphis reportedly claimed the life of Jeromee White Saturday, August 20, 2016.

According to The Commercial Appeal, police have identified a suspect “wanted in the…slaying of Jeromee White at Kitten’s Kabaret on Lamb Place, just north of Democrat and west of Tchulahoma.”

Mr. White was apparently approached by an SUV outside the nightclub, shortly after 4:00 a.m. The Commercial Appeal reports, someone inside the vehicle opened fire, striking Mr. White. Police are still searching for the suspected gunman.

Our Legal Take

Nightclub patrons have a right to feel safe and secure on the property that they are visiting. The Murray Law Firm questions the level of security provided at the nightclub and whether this shooting may have been prevented.

  • What parking lot security measures, such as bright lighting, security patrols, and surveillance cameras, were in place to protect patrons at the time of the shooting?
  • Have there been prior incidents of violence on or near property? If so, were any additional security measures implemented by the nightclub owner to deter crime?

Generally, property owners are required to protect all patrons legally on the premises from any foreseeable harm. Should the facts of this matter reveal that the nightclub owner or management failed to provide adequate security to protect those on its premises, the family of Jeromee White may seek justice and elect to pursue legal claims for his wrongful death.

Based upon its prior successful experience in handling security negligence claims on behalf of victims and their families, The Murray Law Firm suggests that photographs and a thorough, unbiased inspection of the property will need to be performed immediately, before any evidence may be repaired, damaged or destroyed. Given the complexities of pursuing a negligent security case, it is imperative that the victim’s family retain an experienced attorney who can ensure the preservation of any and all evidence that may support such a claim.
