Did negligent security contribute to the robbery and shooting of this man? Read Our Legal Take to find out if the victim may have a claim for compensation.

Local News

A reported robbery-shooting inside the Palace Station hotel and casino parking garage left one man critically injured Thursday morning, June 9, 2016, according to multiple news reports.

According to The Las Vegas Sun, “a man was shot and robbed…in the parking garage at Palace Station.” Las Vegas Police told media, “The incident happened about 2:40 a.m. at the casino at 2411 W. Sahara Ave., near South Rancho Drive.”

Three men apparently approached the victim inside the casino parking garage. “A struggle ensued and his cellphone and his wallet were taken,” the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.  One of the assailants reportedly opened fire during the course of the robbery, and the victim was “shot once.” The victim was transported to University Medical Center with “critical injuries.”

Police have apparently not yet identified a suspect.

Our Legal Take

Casino and hotel patrons have a right to feel safe and secure while on premises. The Murray Law Firm questions the level of security provided in the parking garage and whether this unconscionable attack may have been prevented.

  • What parking garage security measures, such as gated entry, bright lighting, security patrols, and surveillance cameras, were in place to protect patrons at the time of the shooting?
  • Was the parking garage owner aware of any prior incidents of violence on or near property?  If so, were additional security precautions implemented by the property owner to deter crime?

Generally, property owners are required to protect all residents and guests legally on the premises from any foreseeable harm. Should the facts of this matter reveal that the parking garage owner or management failed to provide adequate security to protect those on its premises, the victim may seek justice and elect to pursue a legal claim for his injuries.

Based upon its prior successful experience in handling security negligence claims on behalf of victims and their families, The Murray Law Firm suggests that photographs and a thorough, unbiased inspection of the property will need to be performed immediately, before any evidence may be repaired, damaged or destroyed. Given the complexities of pursuing a negligent security case, it is imperative that the victim retain an experienced attorney who can ensure the preservation of any and all evidence that may support such a claim.
