Could this West Ashley apartment stabbing have been prevented and are justice and compensation available to Ms. Moore?

Local News

Security measures are in question after 25-year-old Monet Moore “was stabbed outside her West Ashley apartment late Tuesday night,” November 6, 2018, according to News 2.

Police told ABC 4, the stabbing occurred “at the Orleans Gardens apartments in the 1900 block of Hazlewood Drive.” A suspect has since been arrested.

The complex was the location of a fatal shooting in February 2016 and a violent armed robbery March 2014, per News 2 and WCSC reports.

Our Legal Take

Apartment residents and guests have a right to feel safe and secure while on the premises. The Murray Law Firm questions the level of security provided on the property and whether this stabbing may have been prevented.

  • What additional security measures, such as gated-entry, bright lighting, fencing, surveillance cameras, and security patrols, were implemented by the complex owners and management following media reports of prior violence on property?

Generally, property owners are required to protect all those legally on the premises from any foreseeable harm. Should the facts of this matter reveal that the apartment complex owner or management failed to provide adequate security to protect those on its premises, Monet Moore may seek justice and elect to pursue legal claims for her injuries.

Based upon its prior successful experience in handling security negligence claims on behalf of victims and their families, The Murray Law Firm suggests that photographs and a thorough, unbiased inspection of the property will need to be performed immediately, before any evidence may be repaired, damaged or destroyed. Given the complexities of pursuing a negligent security case, it is imperative that the victim retain an experienced attorney who can ensure the preservation of any and all evidence that may support such a claim.

Both victims “were taken to Memorial Hospital…in stable condition,” per News 4 JAX reports. Their identities and current conditions have not been released.

Our Legal Take

Apartment residents and guests have a right to feel safe and secure while on the premises. The Murray Law Firm questions the level of security provided on the property and whether this shooting may have been prevented.

  • Have there been prior incidents of violence on or near property? What security measures, such as gated-entry, bright lighting, fencing, surveillance cameras, and security patrols, were in place to deter crime and protect residents at the time of the shooting?

Could this senseless loss of life have been prevented and are justice and compensation available to Mr. Walker’s family?

Local News

Security measures are in question after 24-year-old DeAnthony Walker was shot and killed outside “PT’s nightclub in Centreville early Sunday morning,” October 28, 2018, according to the Belleville News-Democrat.

Police told FOX 2, “a physical altercation inside the club” escalated into gunfire “in the parking lot.” Mr. Walker was transported to Touchette Regional Hospital, where he tragically succumbed to fatal injuries.

Our Legal Take

Nightclub patrons have a right to feel safe and secure while on the premises. The Murray Law Firm questions the level of security provided on the property and whether this shooting may have been prevented.

  • What efforts were made to de-escalate the initial altercation and safely and separately remove all parties involved from the premises? Were police called at the start of the initial dispute?
  • Have there been prior incidents of violence on or near property? What security measures, such as weapons screenings, bright lighting, surveillance cameras, and security personnel or off-duty police, were in place to deter crime and protect Mr. Walker at the time of the shooting?

Generally, property owners are required to protect all those legally on the premises from any foreseeable harm. Should the facts of this matter reveal that the nightclub owner failed to provide adequate security to protect those on its premises, DeAnthony Walker’s family may seek justice and elect to pursue legal claims for their loss.
